Dryer removal in Albuquerque
Pull the dryer forward an inch if you can and look behind it. A thick plug means electric. A metal line means gas, and that changes what happens first.

What this covers
- Electric dryers
- Gas dryers, once the gas side is handled
- Stacked laundry pairs
- The old foil vent duct, if you want it gone with the dryer
What it does not
- Disconnecting or capping a gas line
- Repairing a wall vent or outlet
- Installing a replacement
Gas or electric
An electric dryer usually runs on its own 30-amp circuit and a large three- or four-prong plug (Whirlpool). Turn it off at the breaker, and it can be unplugged.
A gas dryer has a smaller plug and a gas connector. New Mexico Gas Company's customer notice says only a qualified technician should inspect or replace those connectors, warns that even slight movement can make an old one fail, and says the line gets plugged and capped after disconnecting (NMGC, 2021). So do not drag it out to have a look. Call us first and we will tell you what needs to happen.

Clean up what is behind it
Twenty years of lint collects behind a dryer. Once it is out, you will want to vacuum the wall vent and the floor before a new one goes in. We can take the old foil duct if it comes off with the dryer.
Free options
The City takes dryers at the curb for its residential customers. The ReStore takes resaleable ones. Free scrap pickups run in Albuquerque too, and they may be the cheapest answer for a dryer in a garage. We make sense when it is hard to get to, or you want it handled on a set day.

Questions about dryer removal
How do I tell if my dryer is gas?
Look behind it. A gas dryer has a small metal or flexible line going to a shutoff, and a regular three-prong plug. An electric dryer has a big plug and no gas line.
Will you disconnect my gas dryer?
Tell us it is gas when you call. New Mexico Gas Company says this work belongs to a qualified technician (NMGC, 2021), and we will tell you what has to happen before the crew comes.
Can I leave the dryer on the curb?
If you are a City residential customer, schedule a large item pickup first. It goes out five feet clear of carts, mailboxes and poles.
